Nine Herb Charm

NINE HERBS CHARM
In this painting I look back to the past, where we find ancient medical wisdom. Ancient doctors cured illness both by natural herbs and shamanistic techniques. Here the god Woden fights a shamanistic battle with a personification of disease, cutting the disease demon into tiny pieces. The style is largely from Sutton-Hoo, an ancient Anglo-Saxon burial site. James Geary 2003, acrylic on canvas.

Sky Earth and Spring

SKY EARTH AND SPRING
Here I have combined two of the most important myths, that of the night chasing the day and spring rising after the winter. I have involved a mixture of motifs to emphasise the international nature of the myths. James Geary 2003, acrylic on canvas.

The Ruin

THE RUIN
Interlace designs are an important feature of North European art. Here I use it at a symbol of destiny, Fate weaves our future and allows it to unravel at will. James Geary 2003, acrylic on canvas.
