Heathens For Progress (HFP) is one of the largest UK religious groups for followers of Anglo-Saxon and Norse polytheism. This form of paganism is known variously as Heathenry, Northern Tradition, Asatru and Odinism.
HFP was establised in 2004 to support PEBBLE and the campaign to win public recognistion and legal rights for pagans. A breif history of PEBBLE is given on this website. HFP are fully in support of PEBBLE's aim to promote paganism as one diverse faith and Heathens will greatly benefit by working closely with the Wiccan/Witchcraft traditions and Druidism. Together the three traditions number over 40,000 individuals based on the results of the last national census, making paganism the seventh largest faith in the UK.
Tolerance is very important to members of HFP, not only the respect of gender, race and sexuality, but also the respect of different interpretations of the religion. Freedom of worship is one of the most valuable aspects of Heathenry and we will work hard to preserve this. Followers of other pagan traditions who also have a strong interest in Heathenry are very welcome to support us.
HFP also provides a local networking service for heathens, chat areas and many specialist discussion areas on the group's Forum. We hold regular meetings in the London area and hope to host meetings in the North of England in due course.
Members of HFP include the Hoth Kindred (London Branch), Thorshof, the Chiltern Kindred, Woden's Hearth in Peterborough, the Leeds area Heathen hearths and the national group Kith of Yggdrasil. Another national group, Odinshof, are in close support. In addition we have many individual members from most areas of the British Isles.
HFP members are currently being surveyed to determine what action needs to be taken to promote the faith, and what help individuals and groups require from the government to practise their religion freely. The deadline for replies is July 2005.
