Thorskegga has started a series of paintings depicting the gods worshipped by the Anglo-Saxon and Norse settlers in England. Black and white versions of these pictures have been used for the covers of Thunder and the Wain.
Var is the goddess who listens to oaths and ensures that they are kept.
The picture shows two men swearing an oath on a arm ring above a heathen altar. The wooden wands are rune staves recording the oaths. The dragon and snakes are a remindered of the heathen Hell reserved for oathbreakers.
