Husdrapa is a Internet site providing links to the homepages of artists inspired by the pre-Christian religions of Scandinavia, Anglo-Saxon England and Germany. The site is independant and the artists are listed in alphabetical order. There is no obvious Asatru stance so it is hoped that non-heathen artists will want to be included. Peter Madsen of Denmark is the first non heathen to join.
A very wealthy Icelandic cheiftan named Olaf the Peacock had a beautiful hall crafted in about 978 AD. There were carved and painted images along the walls of the hall depicting scenes from Norse mythology including the battle between Heimdall and Loki over Brisingamen, Thor fishing for the Serpent, Frey riding his golden boar, Odin on his horse followed by his Valkyries, Heimdall riding to Balder's pyre and the witch Hyrrokkin riding her wolf. The carvings were so fine that the customary wallhangings were often removed so vistors could admire them.
A skilled poet named Ulf Uggason composed a poem praising the beauty of the hall and describing the images. The hall is alas lost to time but most of the poem remains. It is called Husdrapa - 'the praise poem for the hall'.
Thus we have chosen the name Husdrapa to combine the work of artists inspired by the myths of the Norse, Anglo-Saxon and German peoples.
The Husdrapa website was created on 19th May 1999 with the blessing of Thunder echoing across the heavens.
We encourage artists to create their own webpages so that Husdrapa is simply a list of links. However we can also create webpages from your artwork if required. Husdrapa is currently maintained by Thorskegga of Thorshof so please contact her if you would like your artwork included.
